Ranjit Kumar has always been a geek — he has no qualms in admitting that. Born and based in Hyderabad, ‘Geeky Ranjit’, as he is known, is soon to have a million subscribers to his YouTube channel. He has been one of the go-to experts on smartphone reviews, especially for the Indian market, as he tailors his videos to suit this audience.
With no let-up in the steady flow of new subscribers, Ranjit has started a Hindi YouTube channel for those who like to keep it desi. Ranjit was a computer programmer working as a freelancer before he took up any of this. He used to create commercial websites for overseas clients, and has worked in the field of technology for more than 25 years now.
He says he loves technology and can’t help check out new stuff every day. His wife and 12-year-old daughter, he says, have given up on him and largely leave him alone to his own devices; in this case, quite literally.
In an email interview with Telangana Today, Ranjit says he had a regular education, of the B.Com kind, but learnt coding and all things tech by himself. Excerpts:
